SOID Award for Lifetime Contribution in Infectious Diseases Education
This award is given annually to a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP) who has made outstanding contributions to education in infectious diseases. The Section on Infectious Diseases Award for Lifetime Contribution in Infectious Diseases Education is fully funded by dues from the membership of the Section on Infectious Diseases.

A core part of the mission of the Section on Infectious Diseases (SOID) is to promote the education of trainees interested in infectious diseases. To achieve this aim, the SOID offers travel grants annually to residents with an interest in infectious diseases (ID) and/or ID fellows in training whose membership in the national AAP and SOID is current.

The American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Infectious Diseases (SOID) is dedicated to ensuring that children receive the highest quality of care to prevent and treat infectious diseases and is committed to providing a number of educational forums to share best practices, present new research, and stimulate meaningful dialogue among pediatric health care providers.
In accord with this mission, the SOID is proud to offer a Visiting Professor Program. This program has been designed to bring nationally and internationally known pediatric infectious diseases specialists with a broad range of infectious diseases expertise to pediatric and family practice programs around the country that may not have or who have limited access to a pediatric infectious diseases specialist. In memory and honor of Dr. S. Michael Marcy’s selfless and unwavering dedication and enormous contributions to the community of pediatric infectious disease practitioners and the educational endeavors of the SOID, the SOID visiting professorship is in his name.
The SOID is pleased to accept applications for its Visiting Professor Program for 2025. The Visiting Professor Program provides support for a pediatric infectious diseases physician to visit an institution for one to two days. The Visiting Professor provides lectures and discusses clinical problems that may enhance the infectious diseases training of health care providers including but not limited to attending medical and surgical staff, faculty, fellows-in-training, residents, etc.*
The SOID will oversee the program, which provides the Visiting Professor with an honorarium and reimbursement for travel, lodging, and meal expenses. The applications will be reviewed by the Section Executive Committee and each institution will be notified of the review outcome. The successful applicant program may then schedule the visit with the visiting professor for any time between August 1, 2025 – November 30, 2025.The application can be found HERE and should be submitted by July 1, 2025

AAP Chapter Grants to Support Infectious Disease Education and Collaboration
Supported by the AAP Section on Infectious Diseases
Through its AAP Chapter Grants to Support Infectious Disease Education and Collaboration program, the Section on Infectious Diseases (SOID) offers the opportunity for AAP chapters to apply for a 1-year grant of up to $4,500 dollars towards the development and integration of infectious disease-focused education into chapter activities.
It is encouraged that the activities supported by this grant program focus on areas of interest to general pediatricians and other care providers with an interest in infectious diseases (eg, medical students, infection preventionists, etc.).
Grantees are chosen by the SOID Executive Committee on the basis of the program’s potential impact consistent with the SOID interest in the care of fetuses, newborn, infants, children, adolescents, and youth adults with infectious conditions; the promotion of prevention of these diseases; and the consistency between the program proposal and the submitted budget.
THE SOID IS NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR 2025-2026. The application deadline is August 1, 2025.
