The neonatology specialty faces significant and growing challenges due to its work hours. The current hours can jeopardize patient safety, physician well-being, and
workforce sustainability– highlighting the necessity for innovative staffing models.
With support from a SoNPM Strategic Grant, our team studied this topic and developed landmark consensus recommendations for improved neonatologist staffing practices. We built this toolkit to aid advocacy for and implementation of these recommendations.
The toolkit goals are to assist:
- Leaders to assess local neonatologist staffing practices and implement needed improvements using the Consensus Recommendations for Neonatology Staffing
- Individual physicians to understand staffing models and advocate for needed changes
