History of The DOC IS In
The DOC IS In (Describing Our Careers Interactive Summary Initiative) is a project that was established in 2014 by Drs. Renate Savich and Eric Horowitz to better understand the neonatologist workforce. The DOC IS In is dedicated to increased transparency in careers of physicians in order to inform research, empower self-reflection, and guide strategic advocacy.
Mission Statement
To provide transparency for the field of pediatrics as it pertains to clinical, research, administrative, advocacy, social, and financial aspects of the profession.
Vision Statement
To work with and advocate for the needs of pediatricians as it pertains to defining our who, what, when, where, why, and how, so that our profession can achieve equity where most critical and attract those most fit to care for those most fragile in our communities.
The Benefits of accessing the DOC IS In
By bringing key stakeholders together and utilizing the skills of a data science team, the DOC IS In will provide benefits in:
- Increased Transparency – By better informing career and systems negotiations and professional and care expectations
- Workforce Research – Through better understanding of career recruitment, progression, provider burnout, reentry, attrition, and access to care
- Profession Advocacy – With empowerment of clearer policy development with granular and timely data on professional activities and expectations
*Currently, The DOC IS In is only fully accessible to members of the AAP Section on Neonatal Perinatal Medicine.
The DOC IS IN Scholarly Work
The DOC IS In not only seeks to provide an interactive web-based interface for exploring workforce data, but is also taking a deeper dive into data analysis with publications of its findings and presentations on topics of interest.
