Communicating time-sensitive messages before, during, and after disasters can be a challenge for any community. Developing partnerships with local media and utilizing other methods of communication that might be available when others aren’t (eg, texting, social media, ham radio operators) can make the difference in keeping the perinatal population safe and healthy during disasters.

Potential partners include:

  • Local media
    • Print*
    • TV
    • Radio*
    • Social media
  • Medical systems with their own response systems
  • Cell service companies
  • Couriers (urban)
  • Ham radio operators

*These communication vehicles may be more important for immigrant and non-English speaking populations
