Using Nutrition to Prevent Atopic Disease  

Strong evidence suggests that breastfeeding reduces the risk of atopic disease. Some evidence indicates that a prebiotic supplement added to infant feeds may prevent atopic disease in infants and children up to 2 years of age. However, further research is needed to confirm the findings before the routine use of probiotics can be recommended for the prevention of allergic diseases and eczema.
