Extending NRP into the NICU Setting

Resuscitation in the NICU is part of our continued commitment to advancing neonatal resuscitation education where it’s needed most. This specialized course is designed for NRP Advanced Providers and Instructors who manage critically ill newborns beyond the delivery room—within the complex and high-acuity environment of the NICU.

By focusing on the unique challenges of respiratory and cardiovascular compromise, cardiopulmonary arrest, and post arrest care, this course equips providers with the knowledge and strategies needed to deliver effective, team-based resuscitative care during the most critical moments in the NICU.

About the Course

Resuscitation in the NICU is a hybrid learning experience that builds on the NRP algorithm to support providers in identifying early signs of deterioration, applying advanced interventions, and leading coordinated responses to high-risk clinical events.

Participants will also gain tools to improve team performance, communication, and role clarity during resuscitations in the NICU setting.

Course Format

  • Online adaptive learning modules tailored to each learner’s knowledge and confidence
  • In-person simulation-based training.

Finding an Instructor-led Event

After completing the online portion of the course, learners have one year to complete the in-person Instructor-led Event. This is longer than the 90 days we allow for NRP Providers because we are still developing our NICU instructor base. The process to find an event is the same as for NRP Provider courses. After enrolling in the Resuscitation in the NICU course, learners will have access to a link in Part 2 of the course to search for an Instructor-led Event.

Upcoming Resuscitation in the NICU Instructor Trainings

The first NICU Instructor training was held at the NRP Current Issues Seminar on September 26, 2025. To date, more than 100 NICU Instructors have been trained at one of our in-person rollout courses. If you are interested in becoming a NICU Instructor, please see the information below on upcoming rollout opportunities. Please note, you must be an active NRP Instructor or Instructor Mentor to participate.

  • NANN Annual Conference: September 15, 2026 in West Palm Beach, FL
  • NRP Current Issues Seminar at the AAP National Conference and Exhibition (NCE): October 2, 2026 in San Diego, CA

Space is limited, and courses are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. If these courses fill up, check back for future opportunities.
