Medical Assistants (MAs) should be able​ to perform their tasks with accuracy and speed as well as anticipate the needs of both the pediatrician and the patients.

Essential Duties and R​esponsibilities:

  • Answer phones as needed and triage appropriately
  • Prepare rooms for the day
  • Escort patients to room; prepare patients for examinations.
  • Record height/weight and blood pressure for well visit; chart and graph findings
  • Ask parent or patient about chief complaint and document
  • Perform vision and hearing screening as necessary
  • Assist doctors as needed with sick visits, as well as well-child visits, school or camp physicals, and paperwork preparation as needed
  • Clean and restock rooms and equipment.
  • Assist as needed with securing referrals and making specialist or test appointments
  • Relay messages as may be required by physicians
  • Assist at front desk as necessary with phones and filing
  • Obtain blood samples if certified by finger stick or venipuncture
  • Urine culture and analysis preparation
  • Prepare for and run laboratory tests
  • Assist providers and nurses with procedures
  • Prepare instruments for autoclave
  • Order and stock supplies
  • Clean toys.
  • Miscellaneous as requested.
  • Review insurance information, phone numbers and contact information at each visit
  • Provide patient education

EHR Prep​​aration:

  • Identifies if immunization records are available, if not check online registry
  • If new patient locates old records from filing (or parent)
  • If new patient with no immunization records, obtains releases from parent to request records, contact previous health care center to obtain immunization records via fax
  • Empties provider "out" baskets periodically throughout the day
  • Schedules same day sick call and some well visits as needed during the day
  • Brings schedules to providers at the end of the day for following day's sick call

High school diploma or general education degree; related work experience
