Specialty Fellows must be certified by the American Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in plastic surgery. Applicants must also devote a minimum of 50% of clinical practice to the care of infants, children and adolescents through age 21.

Applicants must submit:

  • Photocopy of certificate(s) of board certification.
  • One letter of support from a member of the AAP Section on Plastic Surgery. (Preferably, the letter should be from a Section member in the state/district where the applicant resides. Where there are not members in the applicant's state/district, a sponsor letter from any Section member will suffice.)
  • One letter of support from an AAP Fellow (pediatrician) residing in the same locale as the applicant.

Residents must be currently enrolled in a plastic surgery residency program that has been approved by the Residency Review Committee (RRC-PS) for Plastic Surgery and accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or those programs approved by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC).

Applicants must submit:

  • One letter of support from the director of the plastic surgery residence program.

Fellowship Trainee Members must be pursuing further subspecialty training in pediatric plastic surgery, pediatric cranio-maxillofacial surgery, pediatric microsurgery or pediatric burns.

Applicants must submit:

  • One letter of support from the director of the plastic surgery fellowship training program.

Candidate Members must have completed training and have entered clinical practice, but may have not yet attained American Board of Plastic Surgery or Royal College of Surgeons of Canada membership. A minimum of 50% of professional time must be devoted to the care of infants, children and adolescents through age 21.

Applicants must submit:

  • One sponsor letter from a member of the AAP Section on Plastic Surgery. Preferably, the sponsor letter should be from a Section member in the State/district where the applicant resides. Where there are not members in the applications State/district, a sponsor letter from any Section member will suffice.

  • A current copy of curriculum vitae​

Section Affiliate membership

  1. Licensed plastic surgeons not eligible for Specialty Fellowship in the AAP who reside outside the United States and Canada and who devote 50% of their time to pediatric plastic surgery patients.
  2. Registered nurses, speech pathologists, physical and occupational therapists or social workers who devote at least 50% of their time to pediatric surgery patients.
  3. Research scientists with a Masters or PhD degree who devote at least 50% of their research time to conditions related to pediatric plastic surgery.

Affiliate applicants must submit:

  • Photocopy of professional license
  • One letter of support from a Section member.
