The Section on Urology, founded in 1971, provides an educational forum for the discussion of problems and treatments related to pediatric urologic disease and strives to stimulate research in, and the teaching of, pediatric urology.

Gina Lockwood, MD
Pediatric urology problems are often foreign and especially scary to parents and children, as they affect such private and personal aspects of a child's life. When a parent researches these issues online, sensationalized content can contribute even further to distress. As a member of the SOU, I have the opportunity to publish evidence-based resources for patients and parents using AAP resources like HealthyChildren.org to help reassure parents, provide accurate medical information, and facilitate shared decision-making.

Lattimer Lecture
The American Academy of Pediatrics sponsors the annual Lattimer Lecture. This endowed lecture is named in honor of one of the pioneers in pediatric urology. Dr. John K. Lattimer was a scholar, soldier, athlete, surgeon, author, and internationally known leader in medicine.
Urology Medal Award
Recipients receive a bronze medallion embossed with the Della Robbia — the swaddled baby symbol that dates back to the Middle Ages when eight larger medallions adorned the foundling hospital Ospedale Delli Innocenti in Florence, Italy.
