The Female Leadership and Excellence in Pediatric Subspecialties (FLEXPeds) was developed as a community of female pediatric subspecialists from 31 AAP sections who support each other in their work, careers, and lives. The group’s goal is to discuss, design and identify solutions to address gender inequity in pediatric subspecialties.
Vision
The vision of FLEXpeds is to continually create, define, and promote equity in Pediatrics for individuals identified as women from all backgrounds, pediatricians, and subspecialists, creating an environment that fosters inclusion, respect, success, and vitality in which they develop their full potential as professionals.
Mission
The mission of FLEXpeds is to achieve workforce gender equity through advocacy, education, scholarship, leadership development, policy oversight, and connection within the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). FLEXpeds will achieve this mission by acting as a resource and amplifier for the work of the AAP community on gender equity issues in order to foster environments that promote workforce vitality. FLEXpeds will also create mentorship, sponsorship, scholarship, networking, and professional development opportunities for women and allies.
The FLEXpeds mission will be pursued with a lens to intersectionality and all broader AAP Equity, Diversity and Inclusion priorities.
