Contribute to Important Work
Engage in the full spectrum of pediatric pharmacology, reviewing drug use, dosing, safety, and effectiveness as they apply to children. Building on the work of the Committee on Drugs (COD) and Section on Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (SOCPT), COMP continues to inform AAP policy and clinical guidance.
Stay at the Forefront of Education
COMP will offer annual programs during the AAP’s National Conference & Exhibition, focusing on timely and relevant topics of interest. The sessions are designed for general pediatricians, pediatric specialists, and pediatric pharmacists. The Council also co-sponsors a variety of sessions offered during the NCE that address elements of drug safety, discovery, and prescribing. Past topics include:
- Polypharmacy management in the medical home
- Management of psychiatric symptoms in children
- Medication safety and the physician/pharmacist interface
- Pediatric sleep therapies (pharmacologic and alternative approaches)
- Use of generic drugs
- Cough/cold products
- Ethical, regulatory and practical considerations in pediatric drug trials
These sessions are designed to deliver insights that can be applied directly in practice.
Collaborate Across Disciplines
We collaborate with other AAP sections, committees, and councils in developing policy, serving as a peer review group for AAP print and online content and supporting activities that inform the therapeutic needs of infants, children and adolescents. The COMP maintains active relationships with the Pediatric Pharmacy Association, United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and the Obstetric and Pediatric Pharmacology and Therapeutics Branch of the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.
Influence Policy and Advocacy
COMP members contribute to national conversations on pediatric therapeutics, engaging with partners and policymakers to advance evidence-based care. The Council has played an important role in issues such as the Best Pharmaceuticals for Children Act, Pediatric Research Equity Act, medication safety, and improving pediatric drug labeling, ensuring children are appropriately represented in research and treatment decisions.
Grow your expertise and Get Involved
