You and youpediatrician have discussed challenges your child seems to be having in school– what do you do next?

Pediatricians may refer to early intervention services. However, you do not have to wait for this referral – anyone can refer a child, including caregivers. For school-aged children, evaluations for learning disabilities may be provided within the school system.

Once diagnosed, there are a range of treatment options which may be suggested. These may include behavioral therapy, referrals for occupational therapy and speech-language pathology, specialized instruction, and/or medication. Your pediatrician can provide insights into which are most appropriate for your child’s condition.
