      Early Childhood
Early childhood is a pivotal period of child development that begins before birth through age 8. The experiences and opportunities offered in early childhood lay the foundation for how children grow, learn, build relationships, and prepare for school.

    Developing State Action Plans

Developing a state action plan for pediatric preparedness will enhance the direction and accountability of preparedness partnerships.

Establishing Pediatric Advisory Councils or Children's Preparedness Coalitions

The AAP offers recommendations for establishing pediatric preparedness advisory councils and children’s preparedness coalitions.

Including Pediatric Care Providers in State-Level Decision-Making

The AAP offers strategies to include pediatric experts in discussions about public health emergency and disaster planning so the federal, state, and local decision-makers can ensure that children’s issues are addressed during the initial state, regional and local plan development stages.

    Strengthening the System of Care

Preparing to meet the needs of infants, children, and adolescents requires an entire system approach. This graphic provides a visual tool to begin conversations in communities and to identify areas where disaster preparedness efforts can be strengthened.

We're 67,000 pediatricians committed to the optimal physical, mental, and social health and well-being for all infants, children, adolescents, and young adults.
