The National Coordinating Center for Epilepsy conducted a needs assessment that identified gaps in epilepsy knowledge and confidence around caring for children and youth with epilepsy (CYE) among primary care physicians. Discussions with medical residency program staff also revealed training gaps in medical residency curriculum related to caring for CYE. The National Coordinating Center for Epilepsy developed the Strengthen & Enhance Epilepsy Knowledge (SEEK) Training for Medical Residents as a resource to help build knowledge and capacity and encourage discussion among medical residents who care for CYE.
The SEEK Trainings are free, ready-to-use epilepsy trainings that can serve as teaching tools for medical residents seeking to increase their knowledge and expertise regarding epilepsy care for children and youth with epilepsy. The epilepsy trainings can be adapted to meet the needs of medical residents and programs. Residents can view them on their own time or groups of residents can view them as part of a Lunch & Learn and utilize the case studies to initiate discussion. Each of the four trainings include:
- A 20-30 minute pre-recorded webinar
- A PDF PowerPoint presentation
- A case study
- A post-training evaluation with a certificate of completion
