Substance Use Treatment Frameworks

Participants will be able to:

  • Introducing key frameworks for substance use treatment
    • Trauma-informed care
    • Harm reduction
    • Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT).
  • Describe the scope of the problem of substance use in adolescents and recognize the impact of substance use on the developing adolescent brain.
  • Practice applying key skills with an initial case.

Adolescent Tobacco/Nicotine (and Cannabis) Use

Participants will be able to:

  • Understand and be able to recognize different forms of nicotine/tobacco and other drugs
  • Understand harms associated with use.
  • Increase awareness of prevention and intervention curricula and resources and how to use them in practice.

Participants will be able to:

  • Describe the scope of the problem of alcohol use and cannabis use in adolescents and recognize the impact of substance use on the developing adolescent brain.
  • Leverage key frameworks for substance use treatment (trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and SBIRT) in the treatment of cannabis use.
  • Practice applying these skills with an initial case.
