GHEARD is Global Health Education for Equity, Anti-Racism, and Decolonization. It is a modular curriculum for global health trainees and providers that is being published by the American Academy of Pediatrics with collaboration from the Association of Pediatric Program Directors and the Consortium of Universities for Global Health. It was created by a diverse, large author group with representatives across the education spectrum and around the world. GHEARD centers the voices and expertise of colleagues in resource-constrained communities.

Description and Learning Objectives

GHEARD seeks to prompt critical reflection and analysis and create important conversations across global health training spaces that will focus on strengthening global collaboration and developing skills for teaching the GHEARD curriculum at home institutions. This facilitator training course to the curriculum, prepares participants to address healthcare disparities by examining the historical and structural roots of inequity and power imbalances in global health. By discussing and reflecting on important topics, global health practitioners will be more aware of their role and learn to center their voices around expert colleagues in global settings to work toward a world where all children and their families have access to health care and the basic services they need to thrive.

Learning Objectives

  • Familiarize yourself with GHEARD content and activities.
  • Define decolonization in global health education and analyze how colonial legacies have shaped power dynamics, equity, and ethical training practices.
  • Apply principles and curricular elements from the Global Health Education for Equity, Anti-Racism, and Decolonization (GHEARD) curriculum to strengthen global public health practice.

The AAP cannot be responsible for expenses incurred by an individual who is not confirmed and for whom space is not available at this course. The AAP reserves the right to cancel a course due to unforeseen circumstances or to limit enrollments, should attendance exceed capacity. Course educational sessions are open only to registered attendees.

Cancellations

Registration cancellations for this course must be received in writing at [email protected] no later than 12:00 pm CT on August 21, 2026 to receive a refund. An administrative fee of $10 will be deducted. Refunds will not be issued if the pre-course, on-demand sessions, or materials have been accessed by the registrant at any time.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

PAs may claim a maximum of 3.50 Category 1 credits for completing this activity. NCCPA accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by ACCME or a recognized state medical society.

This program is accredited for 3.50 NAPNAP CE contact hours of which 0.00 contain pharmacology (Rx) content, (0.00 related to psychopharmacology) (0.00 related to controlled substances), per the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) Continuing Education Guidelines. The AAP is designated as Agency #A17. Upon completion of the program, each participant desiring NAPNAP contact hours must send a completed certificate of attendance to [email protected]. Payment of $15 for NAPNAP members and nonmembers is required via credit card for all NAPNAP contact hour requests. Keep this certificate for your records for six (6) years. Requests for duplicate certificates should be made to the AAP.
