The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) leadership launched the AAP Council on Children and Disasters (COCD) and appointed its executive committee in 2019. Children are a significant portion of the population and infants, children, adolescents, and young adults have unique physical, mental, behavioral, developmental, communication, therapeutic, and social needs that require advance consideration in disaster planning. The COCD helps to encourage children's needs to be considered and addressed in all aspects of disaster preparedness and recovery.
