    Learn About PREP

Home  /  shopAAP  /  Shop by Product  /  PREP Self-Assessments  /  Learn About PREP

    • PREP® (Pediatrics Review and Education Program) is the American Academy of Pediatrics' flagship self-assessment program. PREP supports lifelong learning and certification preparation through expert-developed, case-based questions and detailed critiques. Beginning in 2026, PREP content is delivered through PREP Blocks, a flexible, learner-centered format available on an enhanced desktop experience and mobile app.

    • PREP continues to deliver the same trusted, expert-developed case-based questions and detailed critiques that learners have relied on for years.

In 2026, PREP introduced an updated learning experience shaped by learner feedback. The AAP heard that learners wanted a more focused and manageable approach to lifelong learning and certification preparation. As a result, questions are now organized into PREP Blocks: focused sets of 20 case-based questions that make it easier to engage with content in manageable segments and build a personalized learning experience.

Learners also expressed a desire for mobile access. In response, PREP is now available through a mobile app, providing convenient access to learning resources whenever and wherever they are needed.

The result is a more flexible, learner-centered experience that delivers the same trusted PREP content in a format designed to fit today's learning needs.

    • PREP is now available in two purchasing formats: PREP Blocks and PREP Blocks+.

PREP Blocks are individual sets of 20 case-based questions and critiques within a specific content area. They are ideal for learners who want to explore multiple content areas, build a personalized question bank, or learn in smaller segments.

PREP Blocks+ offerings include a collection of PREP Blocks within a specific content area and provide added value through bundle savings. Depending on the offering, PREP Blocks+ may also include additional learning resources, such as an AAP journal subscription or a print companion.

In addition to PREP Blocks and PREP Blocks+, select legacy PREP self-assessments remain available for purchase, providing access to content from previous years.

Looking for the current equivalent of a legacy PREP product? Use the comparison table below to find the option that best matches your learning needs.

Legacy PREP Product Current PREP Product
PREP Self-Assessment (Online Only) PREP Blocks+: General Pediatrics (Online Only)
PREP Self-Assessment (Online and Print) PREP Blocks+: General Pediatrics (Online and Print)
PREP The Curriculum (Online Only) PREP Blocks+: General Pediatrics & Pediatrics in Review (Online Only)
PREP The Curriculum (Online Only and Print) PREP Blocks+: General Pediatrics & Pediatrics in Review (Online and Print)
NeoReviewPlus PREP Blocks+: Neonatology and NeoReviews
PREP Subspecialties PREP Blocks or PREP Blocks+ bundles in the corresponding subspecialty
    • After purchasing a PREP Block, either individually or through a PREP Blocks+ offering, you can access PREP through your AAP account. PREP content is available through both the PREP learning platform and the PREP app, allowing you to learn from your desktop, tablet, or mobile device.

      1. Log in to aap.org.
      2. Select My Account in the upper-right corner of the page.
      3. Choose Education from the dropdown menu.
      4. Click My Continuing Education.
      5. Find PREP Self-Assessments Program and select Open.

This will take you to the PREP learning platform, where you can view your PREP Blocks from the dashboard.

The learning platform also provides links to download the PREP app for your tablet or mobile device. For future access, you can:

      • Sign in through your AAP account by following the steps above
      • Bookmark the PREP learning platform and sign in using your AAP credentials
      • Access PREP through the PREP app using your AAP credentials

All PREP content is tied to your AAP account, allowing you to seamlessly access your learning materials across desktop and mobile devices.

Please note: Legacy PREP self-assessments are not compatible with the PREP learning platform or PREP app. These products can still be accessed through your AAP education library.

    • The following AAP members may be eligible for complimentary access to select PREP Blocks:

      • Residents: PREP Blocks: General Pediatrics 1-6
      • Fellowship Trainees: Two PREP Blocks in a subspecialty of their choice
      • Residency and Fellowship Program Directors: PREP Blocks: General Pediatrics 1-6

In addition, residency programs may purchase additional PREP Blocks for their trainees.

    • PREP Blocks include several new features designed to support a more personalized learning experience:

      • Performance Dashboard: Track your progress over time, compare performance with peers, and identify strengths and opportunities for improvement across content areas and domains.
      • Practice Sets: Create custom study sessions by combining questions across your PREP Blocks using content areas, keywords, and performance data.
      • Enhanced Question Summaries: After each question, access key objectives, keywords, content areas, domains, and ACGME core competencies.
      • Flexible Retake Options: Restart an entire PREP Block or reset only previously incorrect questions to focus your review where it's needed most.
      • Mobile Access: Learn on the go with the PREP app, available for smartphones and tablets.

This flexible, learner-centered experience helps you personalize learning, track progress, and engage with PREP content in ways that fit your needs and schedule.

We're 67,000 pediatricians committed to the optimal physical, mental, and social health and well-being for all infants, children, adolescents, and young adults.
