Treatment for Tourette Syndrome

Course Description: This educational activity will include pharmacologic and behavioral therapy, including first-line treatment of Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT). While 49%–59% of pediatricians and family physicians prescribe pharmacologics, many report discomfort doing so. Behavioral therapy, particularly CBIT, is often underutilized despite being effective.

Learning Objectives:

1. Describe the DSM-5-TR diagnostic criteria for Tourette Syndrome and other tic disorders.

2. Identify the primary evidence-based pharmacological and behavioral treatment strategies.

Co-Occurring Conditions with Tourette Syndrome

Course description: This educational activity examines the most common conditions that co-occur with Tourette Syndrome. It explains why these conditions are frequently seen together and how they relate to tics. Participants will learn evidence-based strategies for managing tics and associated conditions.

Learning Objectives:

1. Identify the most common co-occurring conditions in those with Tourette Syndrome and explain why those conditions are commonly seen together.

2. Apply evidence-based management strategies to tics and their most common co-occurring conditions.
