Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Section on Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics (SODBP)!

The SODBP is the home at the AAP for professionals interested in child development and behavior, especially in the clinical setting. The mission of the SODBP is to strengthen collaboration between

primary care pediatricians, developmental and behavioral subspecialists, and families to ensure children receive comprehensive high quality developmental and behavioral pediatric care.

Founded in 1960, a core value of the section is that all children have the potential for a meaningful life and society must value their needs and rights. Additionally, we believe that developmental, physical, and behavioral health are intricately linked. These beliefs speak to the diversity and strength of our Section which includes general pediatricians, developmental pediatricians, psychologists, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, speech and language pathologists, and social workers. In these changing times in medicine, it is critical to have a strong voice advocating for the developmental and behavioral needs of children.

SODBP members receive information on best practices and tools for developmental and behavioral pediatrics, access to educational opportunities, valuable advocacy resources, and much more. We look forward to engaging you in our efforts to improve the developmental and behavioral health of all children.

Consider getting involved with the Section! There are many opportunities to participate in Section activities including newsletter contributions, working on projects, reviewing policies and chapters and advocating for children with developmental and behavioral challenges.
