Young Physicians' Leadership Alliance

The 2018 call for applications is now closed. Please check back in February 2019 for the next call for applications.

The Young Physicians Leadership Alliance (YPLA), is a 3-year training program designed to develop leaders and build a leadership community amongst early career pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists. This is an interactive forum of young physician leaders with demonstrated leadership potential through their current involvement in the AAP. The program includes the sharing of leadership principles, behaviors, and tools that can benefit early career physicians in achieving their personal and professional objectives.
The fourth annual workshop was successfully held at the 2017 AAP National Conference and Exhibition and included first, second, and third-year participants. Future workshops will be held each year at the AAP's National Conference. A small amount of preparatory work will be required prior to the YPLA session. Ongoing education and support will be facilitated between each National Conference and Exhibition/YPLA session. Topics will rotate such that the entire leadership curriculum will be completed over the 3-year cycle. Graduates of the program will be expected to mentor new YPLA participants.

The 2018 AAP National Conference & Exhibition will be in Orlando, FL from November 3-6. The YPLA session will take place on Friday, November 2 from 7:00am – 12:00pm.  Applicants must be a member of the AAP. All applicants will be notified as to whether or not they have been selected to participate in the next YPLA session. Selected participants must register for the conference; however, there is no additional cost for the YPLA session.
Please note: This program was set up so each participant will learn advanced leadership skills over the three-year period. In order to take advantage of the full program, attendance is required at each YPLA session during the duration of the three years. In the event of extenuating circumstances that prohibit your attendance, you will remain at the level you missed for the following year's conference.
