Membership in the Section is open to physicians who are certified by the American Board of Surgery in general surgery. They must also have:
special certification in pediatric surgery or
the equivalent of two years of specialized training in a pediatric center, and a devotion of fifty percent (50%) or more of the candidate's current operative practice, exclusive of minor surgical procedures, to the care of children, over a minimum of five years after training
Section Post Residency Training Membership is open to:
International Pediatric Surgeons not eligible for Specialty Fellowship in the AAP who reside outside the borders of the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.
Trainees in Pediatric Surgery who are (1) currently enrolled in an ACGME residency review committee in surgery approved residence in pediatric surgery or (2) have finished an ACGME residency training program in pediatric surgery within the last five years that is approved by ACGME residency review committee in surgery, but who have not yet attained a certificate of special qualification in pediatric surgery and (3) devote 50% or more of current operative practice exclusive of minor surgical procedures to the care of pediatric patients.
As a member of the Section on Surgery you will receive all Section materials, including the Section on Surgery's Newsletter, registration materials regarding the AAP National Conference & Exhibition (NCE), the Section on Surgery Scientific Pocket Program from the NCE and other related information as it becomes available.
