The AAP shares links to external resources that provide additional key information on caring for children and youth who have mental health illnesses.

Talk With Families About Mental Health

The Family Experience With Primary Care Physicians and Staff is a report by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) that provides results from a survey they performed on family experiences with primary care doctors in treating children and adolescents living with serious mental illness. The survey responses came from parents and caregivers of children and adolescents living with mental illness. The survey asked parents and caregivers a variety of questions related to their experiences discussing and addressing mental health concerns with their child's primary care physician and staff. The survey report provides a comprehensive overview of their responses, thoughts, and comments.
