Program Description
The aim of the Grow 2B Fit Project is to design and plan an interventional program for overweight and obese children in Tucson and their families. The program will include nutritional and exercise education for children and their parents, with age-appropriate lessons for the children. The program will also include at least monthly events for families to come together for education, family exercise and support.

This planning grant will be utilized to identify best practices in teaching families healthy lifestyle habits, focusing on nutrition and physical activity, along with identifying resources and organizations in Tucson that could be utilized to form a coalition to address childhood obesity in Tucson. These goals would be accomplished through focus groups, needs assessments, community asset mapping and surveys.

Goals
1. Define educational needs of families with overweight or obese children, along with the curriculum and activities that will most effectively meet these needs.
2. Establish a coalition of agencies and programs to address childhood obesity in Tucson.
3. Develop community and family/parental support for the program to create and identify funding opportunities for implementation, including community fundraising activities and grant writing.
