Tobacco and E-Cigarettes
The Academy advances policies that protect children from the dangers of tobacco products.
Pediatricians have long been sounding the alarm on e-cigarettes and the harms they pose to children's health. These products are highly addictive and come in flavors that appeal to children. They are designed to quickly deliver high levels of nicotine to users.
AAP is urging for bold action to keep these products out of the hands of children, including:
Eliminating child-friendly flavors – including mint and menthol – from tobacco products
Raising the age to purchase tobacco to 21
Strong regulatory action from the Food and Drug Administration
