Partnership for Policy Implementation
The Partnership for Policy Implementation (PPI) was established to increase the ability of pediatricians to implement AAP recommendations at the point of care. PPI operates by assigning a medical informatician/pediatrician to work with the lead author(s) and/or guideline subcommittee to help produce clear guidance on how pediatricians can implement recommendations in practice. PPI also works to ensure that AAP recommendations can be easily incorporated within electronic health record (EHR) decision support systems. Learn more about PPI here.Clinical Practice Guidelines
Clinical Practice Guidelines are developed by multi-disciplinary subcommittees using an evidence-based approach, combining the best research available with expert consensus on best practice. The Academy created the policy statement, "Classifying Recommendations for Clinical Practice Guidelines." To address the need for transparency and rating of the strength of recommendations in clinical practice guidelines, To ensure the need for transparency, even when evidence is lacking, the policy statement "Toward Transparent Clinical Policies" emphasizes that consensus-based statements are acceptable, but should be clearly communicated as such to the reader. The Academy submits topics to the Effective Healthcare Program for evidence report development. For a complete listing of evidence-based guidelines through the National Guideline Clearinghouse, click here. The Academy is also working to implement the principles outlined in the Institute of Medicine Report, Clinical Practice Guidelines We Can Trust.
The Council on Quality Improvement and Patient
Safety (COQIPS) and its Implementation Committee is committed to providing
pediatricians with easy to use resources for implementing Clinical Practice
Guidelines. To view all implementation resources (measures, key driver
