This training describes universal firearm injury prevention guidance for pediatric providers in clinic-settings, offers pragmatic video counseling examples based on existing evidence, and provides resources.

The goals of this training are to:

  • Equip pediatric providers with knowledge of pediatric firearm injury and death rates and and an understanding of firearm ownership in the US. 
  • Train pediatric providers in how to counsel their patients about firearm safe storage in the home to prevent injury and meet families where they are to get to safer firearm storage when needed.
  • Provide pediatric providers with evidence-based methods and resources to learn more about safe storage practices.

This program is accredited for 1.00 NAPNAP CE contact hours of which 0.00 contain pharmacology (Rx) content, (0.00 related to psychopharmacology) (0.00 related to controlled substances), per the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) Continuing Education Guidelines. The AAP is designated as Agency #A17. Upon completion of the program, each participant desiring NAPNAP contact hours must send a completed certificate of attendance to Payment of $15 for NAPNAP members and nonmembers is required via credit card for all NAPNAP contact hour requests.
