Thank you for your interest in covering pediatric topics offered at the national meeting of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). The National Conference & Exhibition is a private meeting of the AAP. The granting of media credentials for the meeting is at the sole discretion of the AAP Department of Public Affairs.
Please note the following AAP Press Room guidelines and media credentialing policies for the national conference.
Press Credentials
The American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference & Exhibition is a private meeting that is held annually to provide education and support to its AAP members. The granting of media credentials for the meeting is at the sole discretion of the AAP.
- Working journalists who produce original content for a recognized news organization may apply for press registration. Press credentials are required.
- Journalists must apply for a press badge in advance of the conference. On-site registration is not permitted.
- Virtual press registration is available for the livestream portion of the conference. Journalists who wish to register for virtual attendance are strongly encouraged to apply in advance to avoid delay in their ability access the conference.
- Freelance journalists must provide a letter of assignment from an editor of a recognized news organization certifying they are covering the national conference for the news organization.
- The AAP does not issue press badges to individuals in publishing, advertising, marketing, public relations or sales; manufacturers’ publications; writers creating analyses or reports sold as a commodity; content creators working exclusively for an exhibitor; or educational program developers including Continuing Medical Education writers and editors.
- AAP reserves the right to deny individual press registration requests.
Press Badges
- Journalists who have pre-registered to attend the conference in person must pick up their press badges in the conference center. Individuals must show a valid ID to receive their badge. If multiple journalists from a single news organization have registered, each person must show identification to retrieve their badge.
- A press badge allows media to attend conference news briefings, plenary sessions and seminars and must be obtained before attending these sessions. Journalists must wear a press badge at all times while attending conference events.
- Media may attend ticketed events depending on space. Ticket-holders have priority for seating.
- A press badge may not be shared.
Press Guidelines
- All attendees, including journalists, must adhere to AAP’s Health & Safety and Code of Conduct policies.
- Ticketed events, meeting presentations, seminars and plenary sessions are part of the meeting and offered for the benefit of AAP members. The AAP requests that media not pose questions to presenters during these events. Instead, interviews with presenters can be arranged through the Press Room during the conference, or through AAP Public Affairs staff prior to the conference.
- Contact AAP Public Affairs for guidelines if you are seeking to videotape, audiotape or photograph presentations. AAP will share guidelines for video, audio and photography with journalists who are registered for the conference.
- AAP reserves the right to remove press credentials from those who do not follow these guidelines.
Press Room
All materials distributed in the AAP Press Room during AAP meetings must relate to the educational content of AAP sessions, and the material must be reviewed and approved by the AAP.
Exhibitors who wish to distribute materials, such as press releases or press kits, for the media may do so at their booths.
Use of the Press Room is limited to those who are registered as media and to individuals who are invited to participate in an interview or press briefing.
