Pediatricians To Help Critically Ill Children Celebrate the Holidays.
On eve of American Academy of Pediatrics 2018 national conference, pediatricians will volunteer at Give Kids The World Village in Orlando, Fla.
ORLANDO, FLA.—Pediatricians arriving in Orlando for the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) National Conference & Exhibition in November will first spend some time volunteering to help critically ill children and their families.
At noon ET on Friday, Nov. 2, more than 100 pediatricians will arrive at the Give Kids The World Village to help create items that children use as part of their nightly holiday-themed celebrations. The pediatricians are attending the AAP conference, which takes place Nov. 2-6 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.
For children who are critically ill, the holidays are not always guaranteed. Give Kids The World offers families weeklong, cost-free vacations. As part of the vacations, Give Kids The World hosts nightly holiday-themed parties for their guests as a way to ensure that families can celebrate the holidays together. AAP members will be working with the Village to create fun props that the children and their siblings can use as part of these holiday celebrations.
The volunteer event is the AAP's seventh annual "Community Cares" project, which takes place during the academy's national conference to give members a hands-on opportunity to volunteer in the host city.
Media interested in attending should contact the AAP Department of Public Affairs at 630-626-6177, or at commun@aap.org. From Nov. 2-6, public affairs staff are available in the press office in room W208AB of the Orange County Convention Center, or by phone at 407-685-5404.
