PHOTO OPPORTUNITY: Pediatricians and Their Families Will Refresh Playgrounds and Landscaping at New Orleans Schools for Annual AAP Community Cares Project

Every year, the American Academy of Pediatrics partners with local community groups to provide volunteer help during its National Conference & Exhibition.

NEW ORLEANS, La.—The American Academy of Pediatrics will serve the youth in New Orleans during its 2019 National Conference & Exhibition, with volunteers spending a half day working at the St. Michael Special School and St. Alphonsus School.

Up to 60 conference attendees, their families and children will help with clean-up and landscaping activities at each campus from noon to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25. Media outlets are welcome to visit either school to capture photos or video, or to interview pediatricians who are in town for the AAP National Conference & Exhibition taking place Oct. 25-29 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.

Pediatrician volunteers will spend time working on the playground and landscaping at St. Michael Special School, 1522 Chippewa St., which educates students age 6 through adulthood with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The volunteers also will brandish paint brushes and restore colorful painted designs and slogans on the paved courtyard at the St. Alphonsus School, 2001 Constance St. This school offers students and their immediate family with a caring environment in which to learn and develop.

Lunch will be provided by the New Orleans School of Cooking.

The AAP has enlisted volunteers from its national conference for a Community Cares project every year since 2011, with a goal consistent of all pediatricians – to benefit children and young people.
