ITASCA, IL—The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) welcomes Omonigho Ufomata to its advocacy team. Omonigho will serve as Director of State Advocacy, directing AAP state advocacy initiatives and working with AAP chapters, committees, councils and sections to advance the Academy's child health priorities at the state level. She will be based at the Academy's headquarters in Itasca, Ill., along with the AAP state advocacy team.
Before moving to the Midwest and joining the Academy, Omonigho was the Director of the Office of Government Relations at the D.C. Department of Health. In that role, she directed the agency’s policy engagement and government relations, represented the Department before elected officials and staff, and advised the executive leadership team on policy and legislative priorities. Prior to that, she served as Senior Legislative and Policy Analyst in the Office of Policy, Planning and Innovation at the D.C. Department on Disability Services. Omonigho has also served in multiple roles in the Executive Office of the Mayor of D.C., the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, and on Capitol Hill.
"We are thrilled to have Omonigho join the Academy's advocacy team as she brings with her a wealth of experience in state level policy and a commitment to advancing child health across the country," said AAP CEO/Executive Vice President Mark Del Monte, JD. "At a time when strong child health advocacy could not be more vital, Omonigho's work and expertise will help guide AAP advocacy efforts at the state level to ensure children can grow up healthy, no matter their ZIP code."
