Pediatrics Open Science is the newest and first gold open access journal published by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
ITASCA, IL-- The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) announces the launch of a new open access journal, Pediatrics Open Science, the first AAP gold open access journal, which will provide free access to pediatric research perspectives and findings from around the world. Equitable access to scientific findings is at the very heart of the AAP’s publishing model, and many governments and funding bodies now require open access publishing.
Pediatrics Open Science becomes the sixth journal published by AAP and will reach a broad audience for quick access to the most up-to-date findings in child health.
“Pediatrics Open Science marks a stellar addition to the extensive resources already offered by the American Academy of Pediatrics,” said Mark Del Monte, AAP chief executive officer and executive vice president. “We are proud to be a global leader in pediatric medical publishing. Now, more than ever, we have a responsibility to share credible, scientific research that improves children’s lives.”
Editor-in-Chief John Patrick T. Co, MD, MPH, MBA, FAAP and a team of associate editors will oversee the journal and a rigorous peer review process for all submitted research.
“We are excited to offer this journal through the gold open access model, which ensures that every article published in Pediatrics Open Science is free and immediately available for reading, downloading, and sharing with others,” Dr. Co said. “Consistent with the AAP’s mission, our goal is to improve the health of children and families through high-quality, peer-reviewed research that informs our readers.”
The journal will use a Creative Commons (CC)-BY copyright license that is supported by author publishing charges, which eliminates traditional paywalls. The publishing charge will be waived through the end of the year.
“Our commitment to publishing excellence is essential for maintaining credibility and trust within and outside of the scientific community,” Dr. Co said. “Our editorial board includes leaders across a breadth of areas that influence the health of children and families. I am excited to work with each of them to build the journal into one that becomes a go-to source of information and new ways of thinking for the pediatric community.”
While Pediatrics Open Science embraces the open access model, Pediatrics, the AAP flagship and member benefit journal, will continue to publish high-quality research and many section features, including AAP policy statements, clinical practice guidelines, and clinical and technical reports. Pediatrics will remain a hybrid publication, with both paid and free articles.
Pediatrics Open Science is accepting manuscript submissions now at https://submit-pedsos.aappublications.org/ and will publish its first set of articles in fall 2024. Articles will be published weekly.
Journalists will be provided access to articles prior to publication, upon request.
