Dr. Jackie Powers is an associate professor of pediatrics in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, where she also serves as the Section Chief of Hematology within the Texas Children’s Hematology Center. Her primary research interests include iron disorders, particularly iron deficiency anemia, as well as disorders of hemostasis and thrombosis. She is the lead author for the 2026 American Academy of Pediatrics clinical report on the prevention, screening, diagnosis, and treatment of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia.

Daniel Smolyak, PhD

Dr. Daniel Smolyak is a postdoctoral researcher at the National Institute of Nursing Research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) focused on machine learning for health care and social determinants of health. He develops computer vision models to study roadway safety risks and uses GIS and regression techniques to understand the impact of neighborhood factors on health outcomes.
