New Breastfeeding Guidance, Family Education's Effect on Birthweight – Episode 119

Joan Younger Meek, MD, MS, FAAP, IBCLC is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Clinical Sciences at the Florida State University College of Medicine, where she previously served as the Orlando Regional Campus Dean and the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education. Dr. Meek is a board-certified pediatrician, a registered dietitian, and an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant. She served as chair of the Section on Breastfeeding of the AAP from 2014 to 2018, and she chairs the project advisory committee for the CDC-funded AAP Project on Physician Engagement and Training Focused on Breastfeeding. She is the editor-in-chief of the AAP’s New Mother’s Guide to Breastfeeding, now in its 3rd Edition, and she is one of the co-authors of the AAP Policy Statement on Breastfeeding and the Use of Human Milk.

Dr. Emily Echevarria is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at Weill Cornell Medicine and an Assistant Attending Pediatrician at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and NYP Komansky Children's Hospital. Her academic interests include communication, racial disparities, ethics, advocacy, and point-of-care ultrasound.

Kimberly Randell, MD, MSc, FAAP, is an attending physician in the Division of Emergency Medicine at Children's Mercy Kansas City and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. Her research and advocacy focus on using a strengths-based approach to promote healthy adolescent relationships and mitigating the negative impacts of adolescent relationship abuse, including reproductive coercion, and sexual exploitation. Additionally, her work addresses healthcare-based interventions to address intimate partner violence (IPV). She is Abstract Chair for the American Academy of Pediatrics Council on Injury, Violence, and Poison Prevention and on the planning committee for the AAP Trauma-Informed Pediatrician Course.
