Program at a glance:
This recognition program includes three required components: a live virtual workshop with expert-led instruction and hands-on skill-building on December 5, 2026; self-directed independent learning tailored to individual interests; and a live virtual applied learning experience that brings knowledge and real-world practice together on September 11, 2027. Participants who complete all components and earn at least 20 total continuing medical education (CME) hours will receive recognition for their commitment to advancing pediatric mental health care.

Before registering, please review the program schedule, time commitment, continuing medical education information, scholarship opportunity, registration fees, registration options, and cancellation policy.

What participants can expect

During the live virtual workshop on December 5, 2026, participants can expect:

  • Real-time lectures from expert faculty.
  • Interactive question-and-answer opportunities to clarify key concepts.
  • Peer learning through discussion, reflection, or small-group activities.
  • Practical tools and strategies that participants can apply after the workshop.

During independent learning, participants can expect:

  • A variety of educational formats and topics to support interests and learning needs.
  • Two approaches for completing 6 hours of independent learning:
    1. Add on a set of 6 pre-recorded sessions to your recognition program registration. Topics include anxiety, depression, autism, eating disorders, ADHD, and psychopharmacology.
    2. Select your own activities from a list of mental health education and training opportunities. This list includes both free and paid options.
  • For either approach, participants must complete one clinical essentials course from the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP), which may require an additional cost. Links to available courses will be provided within one week of completed registration.

During the live virtual applied learning experience on September 11, 2027, participants can expect:

  • Interactive, case-based learning sessions that explore pediatric mental health concerns seen in primary care. Participants will apply concepts from the recognition program by working through realistic clinical cases and role-playing patient and caregiver interactions.

Time commitment

Participants should plan to:

  • Complete the required pre-work prior to the workshop scheduled for December 5, 2026.
  • Be fully available for both live training sessions: December 5, 2026 (8:00 am – 5:30 pm Central Time), and September 11, 2027 (10:00 am – 1:00 pm Central Time).
  • Complete 6 CME hours of independent learning (described above) between program launch and September 11, 2027.

For the workshop and applied learning experience (components 1 and 3), earn:

  • 14 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™
  • 5 MOC Part 2 points by successfully completing a post-test.

For MOC Points, the post-test must be completed by January 8, 2027.

The total number of CME hours earned through independent learning will depend on each participant’s course selection. Participants must earn at least 6 CME hours through independent learning to receive recognition.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this recognition program, learners will be able to:

  • Distinguish the pediatric primary care clinician’s role in promoting healthy mental development and addressing common mental health concerns across the continuum of promotion, prevention, early identification, intervention, as well as treatment, referral and management/co-management. (workshop)
  • Apply relationship-based communication strategies and brief interventions to identify concerns, engage families, and support follow-through on recommendations and referrals. (workshop)
  • Apply practical approaches to mental health screening, assessment, follow-up workflows, and triage for urgent or emergent situations in pediatric practice. (workshop/applied learning experience)
  • Identify community-based and consultation resources, including child psychiatry access programs, and formulate next steps to strengthen mental health care in practice. (workshop)
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and skills from the recognition program to assess mental health concerns, determine appropriate next steps, and plan follow-up care in pediatric primary care. (applied learning experience)

REGISTRATION
Scholarship Opportunity

Thanks to support from the Morgan Stanley Foundation, the PMHEC is offering a limited number of $1,000 scholarships. The first 100 pediatric health care clinicians who register for the recognition program will receive a $1,000 scholarship after attending the December 5, 2026 workshop and completing the required evaluations. Scholarships are intended to help offset the cost of participating in the program. Clinicians practicing in medically underserved areas are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity.

Please note: Scholarships are currently only open to participants who reside in the U.S.

Registration Options
When registering, participants may choose one of two options:
