At Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, we have switched to all telemedicine visits in order to keep our patients and staff safe while also providing ongoing care to all of our amazing families.
I saw that Tuesday, April 28th, was National Superhero Day and just happened to have a full day of televisits scheduled.
I always dress up for Halloween at my hospital, Nationwide Children’s, and have full Captain America and Thor costumes from past years, so I thought it would be a fun surprise for my patients to channel some superhero spirit for the day’s visits.
I had a lot of appointments with infant patients that day, so I didn’t get nearly as much bang for my buck as I’d hoped for. I was really hoping for some 9- or 10-year-olds. But I had a great time.
And it was one small way to maintain that trusted connection with my patients and their families, while also providing a bit of comic relief during these stressful times.
