Thousands of pediatric medical experts will converge to attend and present educational seminars, exhibits and presentations -- and find time to volunteer in the community.
WASHINGTON, DC – More than 10,000 pediatricians and health care professionals head to the nation’s capital next week to view cutting-edge research in children’s health, attend educational sessions and advocate for youth during the 2023 American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) National Conference & Exhibition Oct. 20-24.
The AAP will release new policies that propose bold reforms in Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), that examine the impact of noise on children’s hearing, and question the need for “toddler’s formula” during the conference at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. Original research will be presented on newsworthy topics analyzing the latest trends in children’s health, including the national opioid crisis; obesity prevention and treatment; the toll of firearms; and mental health challenges. The conference also features on-site clinical skills labs, as well as a selection of educational sessions offered via livestream and recorded for later viewing.

On Tuesday, Oct. 24, Xavier Becerra, the 25th Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services and the first Latino to hold the office in the history of the United States, will share insights into child health policy. This session is from 10:30 a.m.-noon ET and will be livestreamed.
Journalists will have the opportunity to attend sessions led by authors of new policy statements. Abstracts to be presented at the conference will be available on the conference website at 12:01 am ET Friday, Oct. 20.
