Andrea Cruz, MD, MPH, FAAP

Dr. Andrea Cruz is a professor of pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine.  She is research chief for pediatric emergency medicine, the Texas Children’s principal investigator for the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN), and director of the Texas Children’s Hospital Childhood Tuberculosis Clinic. Dr. Cruz has over 200 publications, focused predominantly on childhood TB, sepsis, and the evaluation and management of children with infectious diseases in the emergency department. Dr. Cruz is the deputy editor of the journal Pediatrics.

Karen Puopolo, MD, PhD, FAAP

Dr. Karen Puopolo is a neonatologist who specializes in neonatal infectious diseases. Dr. Puopolo is currently a professor of pediatrics on the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. She is a member of the Division of Neonatology at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Chief of the Section on Newborn Medicine at Pennsylvania Hospital. She has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for her studies in neonatal infection. She has served as faculty for the neonatal quality collaborative Vermont-Oxford Network, is a Section Editor at UpToDate and is a former associate editor at Pediatrics. Dr. Puopolo is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), contributing to practice guidance for neonatal sepsis, GBS prevention, perinatal COVID-19, neonatal antibiotic stewardship and congenital cytomegalovirus. She currently serves as chair of the AAP Committee on Fetus and Newborn.
