The AAP Quality Networks is launching the IPAC in Urgent Care collaborative of pediatric urgent care sites to implement changes that support judicious prescribing of antibiotics in alignment with AAP Guidelines. Adoption of these guidelines can help slow the growth of antibiotic resistant organisms, prevent unnecessary morbidity from acute side effects and alteration of the microbiome, and reduce the cost of unnecessary drugs. This multi-site collaborative will aim to improve and evaluate antibiotic prescribing at urgent care sites with the following goals:

  1. Support pediatric urgent care providers in making sustainable, evidence-based changes in their antibiotic prescribing for acute otitis media (AOM) and pharyngitis.
  2. Improve communication with families regarding management of pharyngitis and AOM infections.
  3. Improve use of judicious prescribing strategies including the selection of an appropriate antibiotic agent, selection of the appropriate dose and treating for the shortest duration required, and use of delayed prescribing strategies when appropriate.
